Retirement Withdrawal Calculator

Test how a starting balance holds up when you withdraw money every year and raise withdrawals with inflation.

How it works

At the start of each year your withdrawal is taken from the balance.

The remaining balance grows at the expected return.

Next year's withdrawal rises by the inflation rate.

Formula & methodology

Balance(next) = (Balance − withdrawal) × (1 + return)
Withdrawal(next)
Withdrawal × (1 + inflation)

Constant returns hide the effect of market swings (sequence risk).

Taxes and fees are not included.

Illustrative example

$1,000,000 with $40,000 a year

At a 5% return and 2.5% inflation over 30 years, the results show the ending balance and total withdrawals.

Hypothetical figures for illustration only.
