Emergency Fund Calculator

Set an emergency fund target based on your essential expenses and the number of months you want covered.

How it works

Target = monthly essential expenses × months of coverage you choose.

Your current savings are compared with the target to show the remaining amount and months covered today.

If you enter a monthly saving amount, it estimates the time to reach the target.

Formula & methodology

Target = Essential expenses × Months of coverage
Coverage now
Current savings ÷ essential expenses

The coverage level is your choice; there's no universal right amount.

Illustrative example

$3,500 a month, 6 months

The target is $21,000. With $5,000 saved, $16,000 remains — about 32 months at $500 a month.
