ROI Calculator

Measure how much you gained or lost relative to what you put in. Include any extra costs to see your true return.

How it works

Enter the original amount invested, any additional costs (fees, improvements, commissions) and the final value or sale price.

The calculator adds your costs to find the total investment, subtracts it from the final value for net profit, and expresses that as a percentage of the total investment.

Formula & methodology

ROI = (Final value − Total investment) ÷ Total investment × 100
Total investment
Initial investment + additional costs
Net profit
Final value − total investment

ROI does not account for how long the money was invested. To compare investments over different time periods, use an annualized measure such as CAGR.

Illustrative example

A $10,000 investment

With $500 of costs and a final value of $13,650, total investment is $10,500.

Net profit is $3,150, for an ROI of 30%.

Hypothetical figures for illustration only.
