Subtract your current grade times (1 − final weight) from your target grade, then divide by the final weight. The calculator does this for you.

What grade do I need on my final to pass?

What if my final is worth 50%?

A heavier final gives it more pull. Enter 50 as the weight; the required score will move more strongly toward your target.

Can I get an A if I need over 100%?

Final exam score formula

Required final = (desired − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w

w: Final exam weight as a decimal (25% = 0.25)

A result above 100% means the goal can't be reached on the final alone; a result of 0% or below means you've already secured it.

Illustrative example

Example: final exam worth 25%

Your current grade is 88% and you want 90% overall. The final is worth 25%.

Required score = (90 − 88 × 0.75) ÷ 0.25 = (90 − 66) ÷ 0.25 = 96% on the final exam.
